Inexpensive hair conditioner surprised at superior benefit

April 11, 2009

I ran out of my expensive salon brand conditioner, that automatically keeps my hair shiny and somewhat not wavey, and didn’t have the money for this pricey item on hand, so I ran to the supermarket and picked up one that was so cheap.

What I discovered was that this other brand named “White Rain” Conditioner not only smelled good and healthy on my hair but gave me the wonderful benefits of my former really really expensive salon brand.

So, I guess sometimes you not only get what you pay for, but you can get more value too if you push the envelope!!

Don’t be too nice, or for that matter don’t be nice

April 1, 2009

I am a headline reader and in the newspaper a couple weeks ago, there was a long article which I haven’t read, although the entire article is hanging in my kitchen.  The title captured my eye.

It says “Say what you mean, and say it mean”.

What I have been experiencing at my office is bullying in an office setting. Not physical bullying but with words that make you feel inferior to others on board.

I think because I was nice to people, saying hello alot to alot of people that these other people who are not as nice, feel that their territory is being stepped on and then they in turn tell me I’m not pulling my weight, I’m not suited for my job, and so why am I here at all?

Constant negativity from certain people while I try and get my job done.

So, until yesterday I would feel inadequate and not want to go to work.  But yesterday I said, no more out loud but softly to myself and just repeated back to them that I felt my contributions mattered and that was all there was to it.  Of course I had to do it all day, but I wasn’t going to take their constant unpleasantness one more day.

So, I guess the moral of the story is, if you are new to a job, within a year or so, just don’t be too nice, the ikky people get all bent out of shape, thinking others like  you better than them.  So, what you see is them being mean to you and keep on being mean.  It’s all about drama, and although I think it’s mostly a woman thing, I suppose men experience it too.

Stay strong, don’t be fresh when telling them you think you are doing a great job, say it nicely and firmly and walk away.  Note to self, as I sit and listen to the rif raff constantly, “he who talks first looses”, so hold your thoughts and smile to yourself , because the nice guy pretty much wins in the end.

Plantars Warts

October 24, 2008

I know have a couple of jobs and juggling a temp agency.  What is the spelling of stress?  Plantar Wart!

I went to my favorite pharmarcy and got 2 brands of plantars wart medications.  The store brand seemed to be doing nothing so I got the non store brand.  It seems to be doing something for me.

Of course it was double the price, but what is the price of comfort and wellness?

Don’t be fooled by the packaging for store vs real brand or the ingredients.  Sometimes it is just best to

but a reputable brand.

My child had these at school and I sent him the same stuff.  He told me the same thing.  He ended up using a “freezing out” brand after the generic didn’t work.  He was more uncomfortable doing it this fast way initially, but just a word to the wise, don’t always cheap out, if you have a life to lead.

Have a great day

Diet and teeth problems

October 6, 2008

Are you taking enough for the right vitamins for your teeth and eating right?

Vitamin B12 is a good one that I take daily, and I drink milk once a day and eat yogurt once a week.

I floss my teeth and irrigate them and brush them.  I carry a toothbrush in my pocketbook and toothpaste and floss and so I can do my teeth maintenance when not at home.

Obtain these things to maximize the longevity of your teeth.  Do it today.

Tarter control toothpaste is helpful as well as rinses like Listerine, this will help with inflammation reduction in your mouth.

Get floss threaders for under $1.00 and wiggle the floss inbetween your teeth and up and around.  Teeth will get mobile if not taken care of.  Stress good dental hygiene to your family.  No one needs to spend thousands of dollars on their teeth when they could just get some floss and a soft toothbrush.

Eat green leafy vegetables also.  Have a proper diet, not to sugary.  Sugar is in diet drinks and tonic and soda, watch your intake of these products too.

Have a great day and keep smiling!

Don’t spend a fortune on your teeth - use prevention tips

October 6, 2008

If you can’t afford the dentist, ways to preserve your teeth are the following:

Dental Floss - cost ¢.99 cents to $3.00

Tooth brush - manual or power - cost ¢.89 cents to $149.00

Irrigator - $19.95 to $149.00

interdental brush $1.99 to $3.99

rubber tip - $1.99 to $3.99

floss threaders - ¢.50 cents to $2.99

If your teeth hurt, you must see a dentist.  It is best to get a dental cleaning twice a year.  If you can’t then do it once a year, and do these steps.

It should take 15 minutes a day to do these steps, divide up into 7.5 min. in a.m. and 7.5 min.in p.m. if you desire.

Is there a price tag on your teeth - Yes, and your payment is your time.

Crowns are $650 to $1500 each, root canals are the same, apicoectomies are about the same and dental implants are at least that or double, and dentures are about that cost.  Dentures will not solve anything.  They need to be refitted every couple of years and mouth sores happen too.

When older we can be more likely to get problems.  Like other ailments our mouth gets aged and there are things that affect it.

Placque control is very important.  Use a piece of 18 inches of floss and place between your two hands with index and thumb and put into mouth.  Make it wrap around each tooth and scrape off the placque.  It sound gross but think of it on your teeth, and it eating away at them.

This will help in the prevention of tooth loss and high bills, very high and being uncomfortable.

This will help in the prevention of tooth mobility.  ( I use “woven floss” it is like a little thicker and 2 strands) but if your teeth are in rough shape begin with a waxed thin floss and work your way into a thicker one.  It could take 6 months or a year.  Your gums will bleed when you start, but continue, do it every other day or twice a week then more often.  This is so simple to do and it will save you the big bucks in the long run.

I use an irrigation tool too.  My husband gave it to me for mothers day and he got it on line.  You can get big sales on line.  I think it was $19.99.  It is slender and I put water in it and use it.  It recharges and it doesn’t take up more than 3 inches of room on my small counter.

My toothbrush upstairs is a soft one, and the downstairs is a power one.  My squirts water, my husband’s doesn’t.  Stores sell battery ones too.

This site will provide you with comparisons on teeth products.  www.chochrane.org

I read about all this info in a book called “Periodontology for the Dental Hygienist by Dorothy Perry, 2007.

Do something for you, and your family, be healthy.

Granola Bars

September 29, 2008

Sometimes you can get a variety pack of granola bars or anything for that matter.  I use to think variety pack meant more value, but really I think it means the less desirable ones are in this package.

Now, all I have to do is get my husband to stop buying the “variety packs” and hope he understands my theory.

Even when you buy stationary in the variety pack, take a look, do you really want to get stuck with 18 of the 12 of undesirable prints and patterns?

My husband does  the food shopping, and I thank him every day, for taking this chore off my hands.  I did it the first twenty years, now he wants to do it, hopefully forever!

When buying granola bars, just don’t shop price, shop ingredients and weight, and for heaven’s sake skip the variety pack!

Heart Burn Remedies to try

September 28, 2008

Oh my god, I had the worst heart burn last night!!!

I spent the day relaxing and watching movies with my husband.  It was raining out, and we just “vegged” all day long.

We ordered pizza out and “vegged” some more.

Sipped on sprite and cherry soda, and after awhile went to bed.

With in an hour, I was hurting big time.

I got out my home remedies book and it said ” Soda is bad and anything bubbly”, so grabbing more soda to help the pain was a bad idea.  Sit up or stand up is best, but when you are weary, this is hard to do.

I put a movie on “the OC” and watched it for 4 hours, still limited relief.  I had some water and tried to sit up, but getting weary.  I made myself some extra pillow stuff so force myself to sit up.  At 2:00 a.m. I shut off the light while I was sitting up.

I took some chalky antacid pills and then I felt the heart burn move down my chest.  I guess I should of done that some 5 hours ago too.  But when you feel like this, you don’t really want to put anything else in your stomach.

I had some an apple and orange at lunch time.

Don’t over due it on the spicy, acidy or cheesy or chocolatey stuff and sip some water and chew some antacid chalky pills and sit or stand for as long as you can.  Do not lie down, it will get worse.

See ya, and  have a great day.

Hair Care, conditioner vs. shampoo

September 28, 2008

Sometimes, when I don’t want to get the expensive brand of shampoo, I only do it every couple of years, because I think my hair needs it.  Then I will use conditioner for awhile before doing this.  I’ll use the conditioner instead of shampoo.  I get a smooth feeling and it makes my hair look nice.

My daughter told me that extensive blow drying and straightening can take a toll on your hair too.

So, you may need a blow dry and straightener product if you do this alot.  She ended up getting a set of stuff at the Mall that was expensive, but she feels it taking good care of her hair.

Me, what do I do?  I just let my hair dry naturally for the “natural look” as often as possible.  To be fancy after it is dried I may run the curling iron over it.  But this is only about once a month now.

Like my subjects on soaking your feet, hair care is essential too.  Your body will do more for you if you are better to it.

Hair Care Discovery

September 28, 2008

Okay, so I had heart burn all night last night, (too much pizza, too much fruit, too many brownies) I paid for it. The diet was going well, so I splurged.  Up for 5 plus hours, no fun, in pain, the whole bit.

So, in the morning, I’m showering and instead of reaching for the shampoo, because the packaging is the same for “white rain” shampoo and “suave rejuvenating  body rinse”, I put the body rinse on my hair.  It feels thicker, and I say yeah!  I wash my hair with it then put it back on the shelf.  I then notice, what it is.  So I grab the bottle of “white rain” shampoo and compare ingredients.  They say the ingredients listed first are the most in there and the strongest, and guess what, the first 4 ingredients are the same.  Then I look at the Suave shampoo also on the shelf, and guess what?  The first 4 ingredients are the same.  So, enjoy a luxurious shampoo with body wash.  Maybe your favorite brands will be similar and you can get a thicker feeling of luxury when you wash your hair, and as the wash drips, it will do it’s body wash thing for you.

So, making this discovery, has helped my lingering heart burn, take a hike.

Have a great day!

Need a microscope to read packaging?

September 26, 2008

I feel that even if I was only 16, the letters and writing on some packages is just too small and blurry.

The outside of the package is fine, so just don’t throw out the box.

Why are manufacturers getting cheaper and cheaper with writing on the actual item.

Right now I’m talking about the ear drop packaging, not the Debox that was fine on the bottle.

The competition, one of them is so so small, and but the ingredients helped me no end.

What about also using ear plugs when showering, that helps with eliminating some ear wax.  But when I went to get these out of the package that was sealed so tight, it was hard, then to top it off, I’m in the shower trying to get the tape unravelled on the ear plugs, don’t you think enough is enough with some of this crazy packaging?

Let’s be sensible after all.

Even getting breakfast bars out of packages can be a chore.

Oh well, put a smile on your face and have a great day!
